SENSIBLE, SOLID AND SORDID – NARAYAN SPECIAL
Posted date: 14 Sat, Sep 2013 – 09:37:58 AM

‘Sudugadinallu Sangeetha….Kallu Hrudayake Besaya…’ – Look at the lines written by S Narayan for one of the songs in ‘Appayya’ Kannada film. This explains the whole cinema and makes you must watch for the effort made.

It is the remote place where in the last 100 years the earth tasted blood than ‘Besaaya’. There are stony heart people. It is like Sudugaadu – graveyard. A killing fields indeed. In such a chanceless atmosphere for peace the director S Narayan with a real life story comes up with a love story.  It is not an end like Romeo-Juliet, Salim Anarkali etc. How strong is love explained in a stunning style by S Narayan.

For S Narayan and Kitty protagonist of this film the contents of this film are poles away and they have done excellent job.

After watching this film ‘Appayya’ doesn’t ask S Narayan what he told a few characters in the ears related to ‘Beeja and Banana’! You may reel down and fall unconscious!

From the time of ‘Chaitrada Premanjali’ in the last 22 years S Narayan has done many quality commercial films. This one ‘Appayya’ is outstanding for his selection of subject and putting it right with immaculate locations and artists. In such a hard movements of the two families the cozy atmosphere is never missing via songs and comedy performed by director.

Like a slave Appayya an orphan living in the house of his master Goravaiah (Sureshchandra). He has the power of an elephant and pounce on any number to do what his master says. His company is Puttanna. Puttanna becomes a strong supporter to Appayya when he falls in love with strong opponent (played by Rajani Prakash) daughter Gowri (Bhama).

Appayya is deceived by his master opponent but before that Appayya to save his lover Gowri from snake bike loses his master in another deceiving act.

Appayya sent out from his master house for his attachment faces another major setback in the house of Gowri. How he gets back to his life, what happened to Gowri in the last five years, whether Appayya and Gowri unite, what happens to rebellious characters….you have to watch for a touching tale ‘Appayya’.

This film is best one in the career of Srinagara Kitty. He had no so much of scope to perform in his career so far. Apparently Appayya comes to him from his first director S Narayan of ‘Chandra Chakori’. Kitty role is filled with fire, obedience, calmness. He is too good in action scenes.

Bhama is such a fine actress that you would say I am ready to love. She is so sweet, humble and homely in her role. Sureschandra in new looks and Rajani Prakash have acted in competition.

Indrakumar and JDS corporate Thimmananjappa are convincing in their roles. S Narayan in comedy plus responsible role steals the show for change in dialogue delivery.

Location is one of the top credits of this film. Hiriyur wide space has come out in the camera work of Jagadish Wali in convincing way. The angles he has selected are apt.

S Narayan wins also as music director and lyricist. The songs such as Ondu Mathu Udayisithu Edeyolage….Saavira Hoogale Aralali…..Jeeva Neenu Nanne Olumeye….Tumbiko Tumbiko Bala Tumba….are well composed. Lyrics are on top standard.

You can easily watch this film and take out your fingers to clear drops of tears! Don’t tell what Asharani character does in the end!

With such a film S Narayan should not think of retirement from films! He has more such capacities.
