It is the end of a glorious actress Abhinayasharade Dr Jayanthi. Dr Jayanthi took treatment at Vikram Hospital for a few times and finally on Monday morning at the age of 76 passed away leaving behind her son Krishnakumar.
Although faced a lot of difficulties in personal life, the professional life of Dr Jayanthi in several languages was superb, starting from her first Telugu film `Mangalya`and then made debut in Kannada from Jenu Goodu in 1963.
Dr Jayanthi`s previous name was Kamala Kumari. Born to Prof Balasubramanyam an English professor and mother Santhanalakshmi, Jayanthi was interested in dance in her younger days and that is the stepping-stone for her to make entry to tinsel town.
The bold roles of Dr Jayanthi in Bettada Huli and Miss Leelavathi were much talked about in those days. Chandavalliya Thota to Bahaddur Gandu, Dr Jayanthi was lead pair of icon of Kannada cinema Dr Rajakumar in 39 films from the period of 1964 to 1976. The films like Tumbida Koda, Pratigne, Mantralaya mahatma, Lagna Patrike, Manasiddare Marga, Chakrathirtha, Immadi Pulakeshi, Jedara Bale, Rowdy Ranganna. CID Rajanna, Sri Krishna Devaraya, Paropakaari, Kasthuri Nivasa – Dr Jayanthi proved her brilliance in acting.
The dual roles in Chakrathirtha, Onake Obavva in `Nagarahavu` , Edakallu Guddada Mele took her to different levels in professional life.
Dr Jayanthi produced and directed films like Vijay in 1982, En Swamy Aliyandre in 1989. She pocketed state awards for films like Edakallu Guddada Mele, Manasinanthe Malgalya, Dharma Dari Tappithu and Masanada Hoovu. The best supporting actress roles she got for Anand and Tuvvi Tuvvi Tuvvi films.
In 2005-2006 Dr Jayanthi bestowed the Dr Rajakumar award, besides Kannada Rajyotsava award and Dr Rajakumar Souharda award in her career.
This is one actress with multifold talent who ruled the cinema industry for several decades.
